In a quest to get everyone enrolled and on board with our class network... today we will have a "mini-debate." The class has been divided into two groups. These two groups were given different sets of information regarding the efficacy of shark cartilage as a diet supplement, particularly as a cancer preventative.
After our face-to-face mini-debate on the issue today, return to the network space below and enter your reflection on today's lesson. What did you think about the learning strategies we used? What did you learn? What was difficult? Is difficult sometimes a good thing? How do you feel about this particular content issue? From the readings, discussions and debates today in class... do you feel shark cartilage is an effective and useful preventative or treatment for cancer or other human ailments?
First let me say im sorry for posting so late, i was confused until the short one explained that i was doing things wrong.
I would like to say that the experiment was interesting. i liked how it pitted both groups against each other and how we were both given biased info. From the information i learned that harvesting sharks for their cartilage was wrong because shark cartilage does absolutely nothing for cancer except in some cases do more harm then good. The only thing that i thought was hard about the project was just reading the pamplet in the given amount of time. I thought it was a good thing because it made our group talk to each other and stand by what we percieved from the text. I feel that the shark cartilage is just a scam to make money of the dumb people in this country. this experiment really shows that you could sell someone "magic" air and throw in a md signature andsome long medical words and just bottle a fart that "magically cured all ailments", people would probably by it without thinking.
I really dont believe that thatwas what the project was intended to do its just one thing i took from it. I believe that the project was intended to simulate a debate over a contraversial project and make us think and learn about the subject. it was a really fun class
My outlook on the subject is that i think that the method of using shark cartilage to cure cancer is a wild but great discovery. i would not use the treatment right off ounce i knew i had cancer. it would be my last resort, if every other treatment would not work, i would let them experiment on my body to test the treatment.
yaya i found a site i really like that helped me out a lot!
it broke the structure of the cell down into 3 categories then broke it down even more within those categories
it was straight down to the point and helped me remember all the parts.
In this website, I thought it interesting, yet simple. Check it out for yourself. :)
I couldn't find any credibility on it, though. But when I went to the homepage, it came from a secondary school. That's as far as I could go regarding credibility…
I feel kind of lame having the last three posts on this! But Aziz and I had a discussion and it turns out our video is kind of the same! Mine has the music and a newscast, while whoever did Aziz's took the animation and narrated it. So I thought I w…
Now I can see this post, but not the other one where I put on the picture and claimed that this post was gone. What's going on?!? I also know Ivory posted after this one...and I saw both mine and Ivorys in class. Hmmm...
When I started my research I searched for “cellular structure and function” and even know Mr. Nash said not to just choose the first thing that pops up, but in this case the first two links that popped up were the same website called Cellular Biolog…
I was ultimately against posting a video, and doing an actual website.. BUT I really love this video from Harvard. It shows you what goes on inside the cell. It's set to beautiful background music, and I think it shows how much "art" is really insid…
