You've Been Nominated!

Guess what: our shiny little network has recently made the final nomination cut for the Eddies... the 2008 Edublogs Awards. Principles of Biology was nominated in the category of "best educational use of a social networking service." Our site made the final cut from all original nominees and is now open for voting.

I was not aware that the site was nominated until I was voting there, category by category myself, and was quite s… Continue

"Storm of the Century?" -An Interesting Use of Ning

Gustav is one ugly storm. It is a category 4 storm that only lost wind speed by 10mph as it passed over land in Cuba today. Even uglier is the path it is taking. Gustav is taking a steady NW aim toward Louisiana, and perhaps, New Orleans.

Outspoken mayor of New Orleans… Continue

Mr. Nash..
I made a Flickr, and I'm not sure what protections to put on it. I chose noncommercial-creative commons.

Is that ok?

How long has the Live Traffic Feed been on here? Its a really cool addition to the site, I always liked the cluster map but that has a better effect I think because you can see who is checking out the site at any moment :)

Perspectives on what biology students do and study elsewhere in the world is both relevant and can really stimulate further discussion among students --> leading to better understanding about difficult concepts (eg evolution) or complex processes (say respiration). I've noticed that students using our Discussion group forums in Blackboard benefit from peer feedback and these interactions help to clarify things.

Further, students (wherever they are) can be inspired by your vids (very neat, great soundtrack!) on fieldwork in exotic places, and better appreciate this wonderful but fragile world we inhabit.

Students also learn other skills like netiquette and how to ask appropriate questions about misconceptions etc, without asking for easy answers.

Hey from sunny Oz: this is a great networking site and think the posts add value to college and uni biology education - will recommend my students join. Good luck with the Edublog awards!

i was wondering if there was anyway that you can keep us posted on what our grades are in your class. i just figured since you email us other things that you could do that also. sometimes i don't have internet connection so it makes it hard for me to post by certain times, so i do it when i do get my internet to work. but i don't always know if i get it all done.

it would just be nice to stay updated on how i'm doing! thanks.

In this website, I thought it interesting, yet simple. Check it out for yourself. :) I couldn't find any credibility on it, though. But when I went to the homepage, it came from a secondary school. That's as far as I could go regarding credibility…

I feel kind of lame having the last three posts on this! But Aziz and I had a discussion and it turns out our video is kind of the same! Mine has the music and a newscast, while whoever did Aziz's took the animation and narrated it. So I thought I w…

When I started my research I searched for “cellular structure and function” and even know Mr. Nash said not to just choose the first thing that pops up, but in this case the first two links that popped up were the same website called Cellular Biolog…

I was ultimately against posting a video, and doing an actual website.. BUT I really love this video from Harvard. It shows you what goes on inside the cell. It's set to beautiful background music, and I think it shows how much "art" is really insid…

When I had this typed up in google docs it showed the different links that I had used. Now it's not showing them at all so this is the link that that i chose for this assignment.

I like this site a lot... It's kind of boring-ish... But the way it chunks information and how it's worded is easy for me to understand. Kudos, Shandis.
December 4
I used it in Zoology my sophomore year and I remembered it was a really great learning tool. Thanks :)

Actually, no... I didn't read about the background knowledge of Mr. Sullivan. He is a very accomplished man... This site a quite creditable... Yes, sadly it is a little out dated. But I still dig it... :)
