Favorite plant and/or animal and why:
plant: Lygodesmia juncea - "Skeleton Weed", because it is a hard-nosed and tough minimalist where only the hardy survive.

animal: generally... jellies. Cnidarians are so geometrically interesting from a design perspective, and they persist and thrive on this planet to this day with a relatively small set of simple tools.

You've Been Nominated!

Guess what: our shiny little network has recently made the final nomination cut for the Eddies... the 2008 Edublogs Awards. Principles of Biology was nominated in the category of "best educational use of a social networking service." Our site made the final cut from all original nominees and is now open for voting.

I was not aware that the site was nominated until I was voting there, category by category myself, and… Continue

"Storm of the Century?" -An Interesting Use of Ning

Gustav is one ugly storm. It is a category 4 storm that only lost wind speed by 10mph as it passed over land in Cuba today. Even uglier is the path it is taking. Gustav is taking a steady NW aim toward Louisiana, and perhaps, New Orleans.

Outspoken mayor of New Orleans Ray Nagin, this… Continue

Virtual Classroom

Our work has certainly come a long way this year. In our short time working in this space (since only September 2009) we have attracted quite a bit of attention for our open approach to learning.  Your sharing, reflection and synthesis have earned two nominations for Edublogs awards in as many years.  Impressive is a good word.In the thread below, please reflect upon our use of free, open online tools to enhance our classroom this year. I'm always proud of how your work ends up being all about…See More
