Guess what: our shiny little network has recently made the final nomination cut for the
Eddies...
the 2008 Edublogs Awards.
Principles of Biology was nominated in the category of "
best educational use of a social networking service." Our site made the final cut from all original nominees and is now open for voting.
I was not aware that the site was nominated until I was voting there, category by category myself, and was quite surprised to see it included. How fun is that? I certainly think it is an excellent testimony to the work you pour into this page on a regular basis! The final award will be determined by vote, so tell your classmates, friends and family to check out your work for certain. Be sure to visit the awards site, check out all of the other nominees, and vote. There are some really interesting sites to peruse. The only catch is that each computer (by IP address) can only vote once, so you will likely have to vote from home since others have likely already voted from school.

So, last night I did some web sleuthing and found that our nomination came from
Bora Zivkovic, a zoologist and college instructor. He is originally from
Belgrade, and now lives in North Carolina. Bora writes
A Blog Around The Clock, which makes even more sense considering his original research was focused on the biology of how animals respond over time (
circadian rhythms and photoperiodicity in animals.)
Also- last week, I found out that I was also nominated for an award in the "best teacher blog" category. I was certainly flattered to be nominated by Stacy Baker, the author of a blog I personally read:
Using Blogs in Science Education.

Miss Baker's class was also nominated as "best class blog" for the
Extreme Biology site. Check it out as well, it really is quite good. I have already made most of you aware of my nomination for the "best teacher blog" category... and that is
Science Teacher, Mr. Doyle. Check it out as well if you have yet to.
It is time to become aware of some more really cool online resources. Check them out and vote for your favorites!
